Customs formalities for Austria
Required documents

To send a parcel from Switzerland to Austria, you must attach the pro forma invoice (automatically generated by Expedismart.ch). The pro forma invoice will indicate to the Austrian customs the content of your parcel. At the customs, there may be waiting times because they will control your goods. If you are sending valuable goods, we advise you to take out parcel insurance. If you sell the goods you are sending to Austria, provide a commercial invoice. You can make this out yourself or automatically when you book your shipment via Expedismart.ch.

What you need to put on your pro forma or commercial invoice for austrian customs :

  •  The full address of the sender (you) and the recipient
  •  The number of packages, the description of the goods and also the value of the goods in CHF
  •  If the recipient is a company, please enter the VAT number.
  •  Don’t forget to sign and date the invoice.
  • It is important to write the pro forma invoice either in English or in the language of the destination country.

Delivery of goods in Austria?
Customs tariffs

Since its accession, Austria has applied the regulations of the European Union. Even though the EU has a fairly liberal policy, there are a number of restrictions. If the goods do not exceed 22 EUR (excluding shipping and insurance), customs will not be charged. Also, for shipments whose total value does not exceed the total value of 150 EUR (excluding shipping and insurance costs), customs duties and VAT do not apply. For all other shipments, customs duties and import taxes are 4.2%.

Taxes are relatively high for the following products:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Cereals and rice
  • Textiles
  • Alcohol
  • Sugar
  • Tobacco
  • Desktop machine

Alcohol shipments are only possible in small quantities as a gift or for personal use. If you want to make a commercial shipment of alcohol to Austria, a license will be required.

Goods that are not allowed to be imported.

Before preparing a shipment, make sure that you do not send prohibited goods in packages from Switzerland to Austria. This list varies depends on the carrier (FedEx, UPS, TNT, DHL, or Aramex) and the country.

  • Furs
  • Asbestos
  • Antiques

  • Toxic substances
  • Civil and service weapons
  • Metals and precious stones

* This list can evolve and be modified by the country of destination or the carriers.
